Cris Hicks

LCSW

As a therapist for more than 20 years, it has been my passion and privilege to help people from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds work through challenges due to phase of life adjustments. I have a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in addition to decades of further post-graduate training and education.

My background includes extensive work with disadvantaged youth in individual, family, and group settings, ranging from juvenile delinquency to foster families to alternative schooling. I also have broad experience counseling adults facing depression, anxiety, phobias, grief and loss issues, trauma, and bipolar disorder.

My goal is to support my clients in rediscovering hope and finding balance in life. I use mindfulness techniques to address anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias as well as self-acceptance and self-esteem issues. Using brain-based biolateral therapy in Brainspotting, I am able to join my clients in facing the challenges that are often not accessible or treatable through traditional talk therapy. Brainspotting therapy is a powerful tool to access trauma stored in the brain in order to work through deeply complex and difficult issues and events over one’s lifetime. I enjoy learning about my clients’ unique strengths and talents and helping them to use them in ways that are fulfilling to themselves and impactful to others in positive and meaningful ways.

I spend my free time indulging in many hobbies. I have visited more than a dozen countries and am always up to travel for live music. I also love getting outside for a round of disc golf or a hike in the mountains with my dog, Meghan.
