Becoming a therapist has been part of my journey as I follow my passion to serve, support, and advocate for children. In 1999, I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I spent several years in the classroom before becoming a full-time stay at home mom, focusing all my time and energy raising three amazing kids. In 2013, I decided to go back to school to begin my graduate work in the counseling profession. In 2016, I received a master’s degree from Northeastern State University in counseling. I began my counseling career as a school counselor in an elementary school. I transitioned into outpatient school-based mental health to focus more on children and their families. Over the next several years, I earned my license as a professional counselor.
During my years in school, I gained many experiences and have had opportunities to support a variety of needs. I have had the privilege to work with foster and adoption families, children who have experienced grief and loss, transitions from divorce, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, as well as children struggling with ADHD, ODD, and other behavior disorders.
I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral and solution-focused theories. I implement play-based therapy, bibliotherapy, and interactive methods for children. I observe that big, strong emotions often drive behaviors and beliefs that impact relationships with peers and families. I have always loved supporting and encouraging children, but I have found great appreciation in working with families to better connect and restore the family system. My hope is to build genuine and trusting relationships with my clients and their families. By creating a safe and supportive environment, children are able to develop positive behavioral and emotional regulation strategies to best support their individual needs. My goal is to help my clients discover their unique gifts and potential to be their best self.
Personally, I just celebrated my 25th anniversary with my high school sweetheart! I am a mom to three teenagers and two dogs. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, supporting athletics, reading, watching movies, and traveling. Over the years, I have been active in children’s ministry, and currently serve in the special needs ministry at my church.
